FCC’s Chairman Supports Mobile Broadband for Economic Growth

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski spoke at the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment show in San Diego, California, and expressed his full support for the mobile broadband technology and highlighted its potential for ushering the US into an era of economic boom.

Federal Communications Commission, also known as FCC, is an independent government body that deals with telecoms issues in the US. Its chairman Mr Genachowski expressed his belief in the mobile broadband industry and said that down the years he had witnessed marked changes in the way mobile broadband has been perceived and used by corporate organizations.

The chairman also clarified that the FCC is supportive of the industry and its advancement, and that it is ready for investment and for elimination of any possible hindrances in the rolling out of next generation mobile broadband, besides allocation of more broadband spectrum for the purpose.

Genachowski also talked about the new decisions on the issue of net neutrality that have been opposed by wired as well as non-wired service providers. The aim of these new decisions and regulations is to prevent the ISPs from having an absolute discretion in choosing the content as well as content provider - something that can be prejudicial to others. However, the broadband providers argue that the regulations will interfere with their management of network.

It was rather difficult for Genachowski to persuade the audience that he actually appreciates the nuances between network management of fixed and mobile broadband services as well as the fact that the providers were not entirely wrong in resisting the move.
