Donkey, like fish, is a term used to describe a poor online poker player. More specifically, a donkey is a player who plays the game according to how they feel. This means that they bet whenever they feel like it, without any kind of strategy. As a particular feature of donkeys, they will place large bets on hands with very bad odds of winning. They tend to think that they are amazing players, though, rather than realizing that anything they win was accidental. Donkeys are particularly susceptible to the idea that they are on a winning or losing streak. Experienced poker players know that there is no such thing in poker; it all boils down to skill. Donkeys don’t know that, though, and they play only on their instincts. If you see a donkey at your table who thinks they are on a winning streak, you can be sure that the player will be betting big. They will be convinced that they can’t lose, so take advantage of their over confidence. As a term, donkey can also be used to describe a manner of playing poker online, rather than a type of player. After making a bad play, some players will say that they “donked” out. This is a reference to playing with the kind of mistakes suitable to a novice.
