TalkTalk to Acknowledge Use of Digital Technology for Social Change

TalkTalk has inaugurated the Digital Heroes Award for this year in collaboration with Citizens Online and the Digital Champion of the UK, Martha Lane-Fox. The idea of the award is to look for unknown Digital ‘heroes’ of the country. The awards involve finding one person from every region of the UK, who are utilising digital knowledge and technologies to address social problems of the country and improve the lives of other residents of their locality.

Out of the twelve selected individuals, eleven would be given a cash award of £5,000 for their endeavours towards bringing about social change through digital technology. The person who comes first will be given £10,000. Moreover, all twelve selected candidates will get free broadband access for 18 months.

The MD of TalkTalk, Wendy Becker stated that this award is a good way of recognising the efforts and dedication of those who are making use of digital technology for the betterment of the country. The feedback from previous winners shows how cash awards make a huge impact on the extent and quality of their endeavours. She called out to all the charities to recommend their digital heroes for 2009 awards in order to help their projects.

All the nominations for the award should be filed online on the official site of TalkTalk before September 11, 2009. The winners would get their awards in a function organised in the Houses of Parliament in November 2009.
