Can’t Fold Top-Two Pair?
Posted in Courting Luck, Enjoyment at 1:22 pm |

A friend of mine was playing up in Seabrook NH at The Poker Room on Memorial Day. They had a $120 buy-in for 12K in poker online chips. By the 6th level or so, the blinds were up to 400/800. I’m not sure how many casino chips my friend had at this point, but I assume he was average stacked, not too high or low.

In one poker online hand, my friend was in the big blind with J, 8 off-suit. The player under the gun limped in, and everyone else folded to the small blind who completed the call. In the BB with J, 8, my friend checked his option.

The flop came out: Jd 3s 8d He had flopped top two pair on a limped in pot. He’d be lucky if anyone else caught a piece of this flop he crushed it so badly.

The small blind checked. My friend in the BB was reaching for chips when the UTG player acted out of turn and made a bet of 2000. The dealer asked the BB is he had checked and my friend said yes. He loved the fact that the player behind him was betting into him out of turn. There was a diamond draw, which he could be betting at, but also if he thought both players had checked, he might just be trying to steal the pot. With all plans to pounce on this mistake, my friend was startled that now the small blind had moved all-in. He limped in from the SB and now check raised all in on this flop.
